Dave, born and raised in the Midwest, never imagined in those early years that he would develop a passion for wines and winemaking. After visiting his first winery, on a trip through Southern California back in 1975, a "seed" was planted and a dream began to form. Throughout the years of visiting wineries across the country, tending his own vines in a backyard setting and home winemaking kept his dream alive. After purchasing his first vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley in 2006, his dream was becoming a reality. Retiring from the corporate world, Dave finally had time to devote to developing the Helwig Winery project.
Nancy, born and raised in Sacramento, feels like she is "coming home" having been out of the area for the past 40 years. After being a full-time wife and mom, Nancy formed a small business and started raising alpacas, which helped fill her empty nest. Now with a herd of alpacas and a blossoming family business with Helwig Winery, there is never a dull moment, and each day brings new joys.
The Kitchen @ Helwig is now open 7 days a week, 11-3 (hours subject to change on wedding & event days). Be sure and come hungry! (Please note: Helwig winery no longer allows outside food. We are sorry to have to make this policy change. Thank you for your understanding).
We are pleased to announce that the lineup for our 2019 Summer Concert Series is set. We have some amazing bands this year so don't miss out! Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
